Imagine you have a cat. Every morning, your feline fellow leaves your house with an innocent meow. Your cat is quite outdoorsy, so you assume the little munchkin is hunting bugs in the garden or the neighbourhood. No, that may not necessarily be the reality. At least, that wasn’t the case with Jessica Henry’s cat, CJ. Or should he be addressed by his pseudonym, Oreo?

Cats are mysterious beings, and for good reason. You can never know what’s going on in their minds. It’s too tough to read their thoughts. Ask any cat parent, and they would agree. Felines are infamous for their ability to keep secrets. But CJ’s family never thought he would be hiding something this significant. Let’s just say, this adorable cat was having his cake and eating it too!
The mystery was really unveiled when a TikToker, @thejessica. henry, shared the story of how her cat lived a double life and managed to keep it a secret. Her black-and-white cat was living a secret life at the neighbours’ next door. Her beloved feline had already negotiated a sweet deal with the people next door, including a premium bed and premium treats.
“Just learned my cat has his own bed in the neighbours’ house, has a spot through a window he enters as he pleases, eats Fancy Feast, and has special kitty treats, jumps in their car with them, has a human BFF named Rob, and his name over there is Oreo, and they refer to him as their step-cat,” the woman wrote on TikTok, sharing a picture of the smart feline.

CJ is undoubtedly a spoiled cat. He has his treats, a cosy home, and a family that loves him to the moon and back. In between the days when they couldn’t spot CJ, the family thought he was exploring the neighbourhood. But in reality, he had been cosying up to the neighbours. They called him Oreo, and he was their best buddy. At the neighbours’, he slept on a cosy bed, had a spot by the window to come and go as his little brain pleased, and ate special kitty treats until his stomach was full!
When he was confronted, he was unashamed. He was caught red-handed, but he had no iota of guilt. He did what he did! He was indeed playing both the neighbours and reaping delicious rewards.
Interestingly, CJ’s double life is not uncommon for cats. Many cute little felines have orchestrated similar scams, and some are not yet caught!
How do you know if your cat has been moonlighting? Well, observe them closely. See if your cat is mysteriously well-fed despite you rationing the kibble. Does your tabby smell different? Most importantly, check if they seem irritated when you interrupt their schedule with things like mealtime or bedtime.
