‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ actor Aditya Uppal says real Omar checked his Instagram; reveals he received death threats from Pakistan over his role
Some films do more than entertain. They become a trend in a way that everyone talks about them everywhere. They build curiosity around characters, and sometimes even push actors into unexpected public attention. When a performance connects strongly with viewers, it can travel far beyond the screen and become part of viral digital content online.
"Dhurandhar: The Revenge" has been raging across cinemas, and audiences are more than interested in exploring the real-life inspirations behind the characters of the movie.
Aditya Uppal’s role in "Dhurandhar: The Revenge" has brought him both recognition and controversy, with the actor saying the response to his performance has reached far beyond India. Uppal told DNA that his character, ASP Omar Haider, was inspired by a real-life officer, Omar Shahid Hamid, and that he later learned the real person had viewed his Instagram profile.
Speaking to DNA, as quoted in the report, Uppal said, “I got to know that he has visited my Instagram profile. But I didn't want to disturb his privacy. So, I never went ahead and interacted with him socially.” The same coverage also noted that he had seen a screenshot showing his name added to Hamid’s Wikipedia page under popular culture, which he described as a big moment for him.

The actor’s comments suggest that the role has become bigger than a standard film performance. In the report, he described receiving appreciation from a Pakistani-born executive based in Dubai, who connected him to Omar Hamid, and even said that Hamid had tagged him in posts. He also made a remark calling Omar Hamid “the only intelligent man in Pakistan.”
For the unversed, his character follows the rise of Hamza in Karachi’s Lyari underworld and also traces his early journey into espionage. The film features actors including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and others, and has done exceptionally well at the box office, earning nearly Rs 1,000 Cr worldwide.
