From 35 rejections and ₹20K salary to ₹27 LPA: Techie’s career journey sparks discussion online
In today’s fast-moving tech job market, salary growth stories often gain attention quickly on social media. But behind those numbers are usually years of setbacks, uncertainty, and consistent effort. A recent post shared by a software developer has sparked similar discussions online.
The developer, who graduated from a Tier-3 college in Pune in 2020, said the beginning of the career was difficult. During campus placements, they faced around 30–35 interview rejections, affecting confidence early on.
Despite repeated setbacks, the developer continued coding and focused on improving skills.
Things changed when the developer received an offer from CapG with a package of 3.8 LPA. However, COVID delayed the joining process significantly.
“But one thing I always knew was that I genuinely loved coding. Finally, I received an offer from CapG with a package of 3.8 LPA.
But due to COVID, the joining kept getting delayed. I got the offer in March 2020, and the joining happened only in February 2021.
For the first 6 months, the salary was around 20k, and even the location was unclear till the joining date,” the user wrote in a Reddit post.
Later, the developer joined a friend’s startup with a salary of ₹45,000 per month. The role offered hands-on experience beyond coding, including building products from scratch and interacting with clients.
The developer eventually decided to switch jobs again and prepared more seriously. Even then, there were rejections from companies offering 12–13 LPA roles.
“Eventually, I decided to switch again. This time, I prepared properly. Initially, I got rejected from companies offering around 12-13 LPA because I lacked confidence and depth in some areas. But instead of getting discouraged, I kept improving. I gave around 10-15 more interviews and finally got three offers around 15 LPA,” the techie said.
While considering offers, the developer was approached by a founder on LinkedIn. Multiple interview rounds later, this led to a ₹27 LPA offer.
“From someone who struggled to clear aptitude rounds to someone getting reached out directly by founders, life really came full circle,” the techie wrote.
The developer ended the post with advice for people struggling in their careers:
“Keep working on yourself and believing in yourself even when nothing around you is giving you proof yet. A lot can change in a few years.”
Many users related to the journey, especially people from non-premier colleges facing similar challenges. Others congratulated the developer and said the story felt motivating, while some asked for guidance on handling rejections and career growth.
