LPG scam alert: Kolkata woman reveals how a simple call nearly led to bank fraud
People are already discussing LPG-related concerns, but a new incident from Kolkata is prompting fresh questions about safety. A woman has shared a personal experience online to warn others about a scam attempt that used the LPG situation as an excuse. Her post is slowly gaining attention as more people relate to such unexpected calls.
In her post, the woman explained that her mother received calls from two unknown numbers. The callers said they were offering urgent help related to LPG.
At first, everything sounded normal. The callers spoke convincingly and attempted to appear genuine in their support.
As the conversation progressed, the callers asked her mother to stay on the video call. They then told her to open her bank account during the call.
This request did not seem right and made her mother suspicious.
Instead of following their instructions, her mother chose to stay cautious. She did not share any bank details. She also did not transfer money or enter her PIN.
The woman shared the incident in her own words, saying, “These numbers called my ma and scammed her, saying they were offering urgent LPG help. Got her to open her bank account on a video call, thankfully, she was alert enough not to transfer money to them. Or to type the pin on camera,”
Her careful decision ensured that no money was lost.
After sharing the experience, the woman also tagged the official account of Bidhannagar Police on X. She requested that they look into the matter. She also posted the phone numbers used for the calls so that others can stay aware.
This incident shows that scam calls can come in different forms, especially during situations people are already worried about.
It is always better to stay careful and avoid sharing personal or banking details on calls. Being alert can help prevent such problems.
