Meet Ibu Baron: 23 feet reticulated python recorded as the longest wild snake in Indonesia by the Guinness World Records
Beneath Indonesia’s dense forests, a female reticulated python was found that stretched an astonishing 7.22 metres (23 feet 8 inches) from head to tail, longer than even a bus. As reported, the snake’s name is Ibu Baron, which suggests she might now hold the longest verifiably measured wild snake ever recorded.
The snake was measured on 18 January 2026 by Diaz Nugraha and Radu Frentiu, who are known to be experts in handling and documenting large reptiles. To avoid any exaggeration, the measurement was reportedly done multiple times from head to tail. Currently, the Baron rests somewhere in Sulawesi alive and calm. The Guinness World Records video on Instagram reveals that ecosystems may claim that when top predators thrive, it means something is going on beneath the surface.
This 23 feet 8 inches reticulated python, Ibu Baron, was discovered in the Maros region of Sulawesi, Indonesia. The rugged area, forested and full of limestone hills, is known to be inhabited, but still somewhere one can expect to meet the living legends of wildlife.
Ibu Baron officially surpasses the previous verified records for wild snakes. As per scientific and verified reports, female reticulated pythons grow significantly larger than males, and so is Ibu, as reported to be a female python with extraordinary length, weight, and strength, making her one of the most remarkable and awe-inspiring reptiles ever documented in the wild.
The longest snake species on Earth ever recorded is known to be the reticulated python. They are known to be native to Southeast Asia, thriving in warm, humid environments with plenty of prey. They are reportedly known to grow steadily, with successful hunts and surviving each year. As per the video posted, this reticulated python may be quite old, though the exact age is still unknown. These snakes’ size does not necessarily define she might be dangerous, but they are actually known as the ambush predators, quiet patients who don’t chase people, and whatever encounters record happens is when humans unsteadily interfere with them.
Ibu Baron is now in the care of local conservationist Budi Purwanto.
