Jaipur has long been a favorite destination for jewellery and gemstone buyers from around the world. Recently, an American designer shared a detailed breakdown of what it actually costs to travel to the city and source materials for her collections. In a viral post, she revealed the full expenses of her 10-day sourcing trip, offering a glimpse into the investment behind running a jewellery business.
Katie explained why she travels to Jaipur for work. She inquired, “What is the cost of a jewellery sourcing trip to Jaipur?”
She added, “I go to India to design and source gemstones, jewelry & textiles for my collections. Jaipur is one of the most magical places in the world for jewelry lovers. Every trip inspires an entirely new collection, and people always ask what a trip like this costs.”
Although she found Jaipur “surprisingly affordable,” she noted, “until you start buying gems and fabrics.”
Katie shared her expenses in a video that began with the text, “How much did my 10-day sourcing trip to India really cost?”
She mentioned that her flight from New York to Jaipur cost about $6,000, which is roughly ₹5.5 lakh. Accommodation, local travel, and daily expenses, including food and leisure, added up to nearly $3,250, or close to ₹3 lakh.
The majority of her budget was allocated to sourcing materials. Katie revealed she spent around $50,000 on gemstones, gold, silver, and fabrics. In Indian currency, this amount is about ₹45 lakh.
When travel and daily expenses are added, the total cost of her 10-day Jaipur trip reached $59,250, exceeding ₹54 lakh.
Katie also shared the challenges of running her own business. She wrote, “Running a small business means betting on yourself again and again. Sometimes it’s scary… but we do it anyway. Wish me luck this selling season.”
Her post received many encouraging responses online.
One person wrote, “I am also a small business owner, a female entrepreneur. Based in Jaipur. Good luck!”
Another said, “Such an informative reel! I’m based here and help international designers with gemstone & textile sourcing locally. If you need help with sourcing or on-the-ground help, please let me know. Thanks.”
A third user commented, “Many congratulations and best wishes to you for this memorable trip. And I hope that you return to Jaipur as soon as possible.”
