Who is Tawseef Ahmad Ganie? The inspirational story of Pulwama’s first IAS officer

But unfortunately, it has been a while since we heard the district's name for a positive reason but this time around, there is a happy news coming from this part of the valley. Tawseef Ahmad Ganie, a young man from a small village in the district, has become an IAS officer. Not only is he the first from Pulwama to achieve this, but his journey has also inspired hope and pride across the community.

From a simple home to a big dream

Tawseef didn’t grow up with comfort or extra support. Life was pretty basic. His father worked as a labourer, taking on whatever work came his way. At one point, he even sold land so that his children could continue their studies, as mentioned in a Times Now report.

That kind of sacrifice stays with you, and in Tawseef’s case, it clearly did.

Days at work, nights with books

Here’s the part that really stands out. While preparing for the UPSC, he wasn’t sitting at home with all the time in the world; he was working.

As reported by Times Now, he took up a job as a veterinarian in Poonch. Long days, tiring work, and then, somehow, he would still sit down to study. Maybe late at night, maybe when most people would have called it a day. But he kept going.

And then, the result

When the UPSC results came out, his name was there, with an All India Rank of 254.

For a place like Pulwama, this is huge. Not because of the number, but because of what it means. It tells every student sitting in a small room somewhere that it can be done and that anything is possible!

Credit where it’s due

If you hear him speak, he doesn’t make it about himself too much. He talks about his parents, especially his father. He discusses teachers, the people who stood by him when things weren’t easy.

His message is simple, almost like something you’d hear at home: don’t give up. Just keep going.

Back home, it felt like everyone had won

When he returned to his village, it wasn’t a quiet visit. People came out, greeted him, smiled, and celebrated.
