369 Movie Review

Story: Professor Devraj is kidnapped and soon there’s a murder attempt on his student Ritu. The plot unravels the reasons for the same and what happens during the investigation.

Review: The movie 369 starts off with a man placing a bouquet on a gravestone, with the narration: “Real wounds don’t heal with time”.

Hemant Menon plays a dubbing artiste named Sanju and Miyasree, his fiancée Ritu. One day, Ritu gets a message from her old professor to meet him the next morning, but on reaching the location, she comes to know that he has been kidnapped. The same night, there’s a murder attempt on her too. The investigation goes nowhere with the cops not finding any evidence and the list of suspects include Sanju too. The rest of plot deals with the reasons for the kidnapping and how the cops solve the case.

Most of the movie is shot in the night and the film has ample interesting twists, which make it hard for the audience to predict. The film might not boast of a big star cast. Shafique Rahiman, who appeared as a Bengali labourer in Amar Akbar Antony, plays a cop in the film, which has been shot in Kuttikanam and surrounding areas. The pace of the film is also uneven as it starts slow and picks up speed only after the interval.

As for the acting, Hemant couldn’t do justice to his role, be it through his expressions or dialogue delivery. Miyasree play her part decently well and Shafique could have done a better job. Anil Eshwar’s camera and Sandeep’s background score were interesting but the movie doesn’t have any memorable songs.

While the film has an interesting plot, the leading actors fail to make the audience connect with their characters and this results in the film being a drag for the first half. Director Jefin Joy deserves credit for holding up the suspense till the end. The filmmaker also doesn’t try to incorporate unnecessary songs or action scenes and wraps up the movie within two hours.
