Reasons behind Apple's ban

These loan apps were taken down because many users complained about them. Users said the apps asked for unnecessary access to contacts and media, and they also charged high interest rates and "processing fees" that were half the loan amount.

2/6

User complaints

Users of these loan apps went through tough situations, facing harassment and threats when they couldn't repay loans on time. Some apps went as far as threatening users by reaching out to their personal contacts or creating fake pictures if payments were delayed.

3/6

Apple's response

Apple removed these loan apps from the App Store because they violated the rules in the Apple Developer Program License Agreement. The apps were falsely saying they were connected to financial institutions, which is why they were banned.

4/6

Apple's stance on App Store safety

Apple stressed its dedication to ensuring a secure experience for App Store users. The company made it clear that it does not tolerate fraudulent activity and has strict rules against apps and developers trying to deceive the system.

5/6

Measures taken by Apple

In 2022, Apple stopped more than $2 billion in fraudulent transactions on the App Store. They also turned down nearly 1.7 million app submissions that didn't meet quality and safety standards, closing 428,000 developer accounts due to suspected fraud.

6/6

Comparison with Google's actions

Apple tackled fraudulent apps, and Google followed suit in April of the same year by removing over 3,500 personal loan apps from the Play Store in India. This reflects a joint effort to uphold the integrity of app marketplaces.
