Lok Sabha Elections 2024: How to change your address on voter ID card online

Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place this year. It is likely that the government will hold 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the months of April or May. So, as the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections approach, it is important to get your Election Commission ID card in place. Election Commission ID card or Voter ID card is one of the most important documents to cast your vote. The Election Commission of India allows citizens to do certain tasks online. These include updation of residence address on the voter ID card. If you've recently changed your residence or moved to a new city, you can easily modify your address on the voter ID card by filling out 'Form 8' on the National Voter's Service portal website at https://voters.eci.gov.in/.

Important Note: Citizens need to remember that it's illegal to hold more than one voter ID card. Enrolling for vote from more than one place is considered an offense and is punishable by law.

Form 8 is aimed at allowing citizens to makes changes in their Voter ID card. This allows users to change Shifting of Residence, Correction of Entries in Existing Electoral Roll, Issue of, Replacement EPIC without correction and Request for marking as Person with Disability

Here’s how to apply for change.

Head to https://voters.eci.gov.in website and either login using an existing account or create a new account, if you don’t have it already.

To create a new account, follow these steps:

Click on “Sign up” button at the top right corner
Enter mobile number, email address (optional) and captcha to create a new account.

If you already have an account, then simply enter the mobile number, password, captcha and OTP to login.

Click on Form 8 option on the website’s home screen
On the home screen you’ll see a banner that reads, “Shifting of residence/correction of entries in existing electoral roll/replacement of EPIC/marking of PwD” along with Form 8 button on it. Click on the Form 8 icon.

It will then navigate you to another page where you’ll need to enter necessary details

On the next screen, you will need to choose the “Application for”. Choose “Self” if the changes are related to you. Else choose “Others” In either case, you will be asked to enter the EPIC number (This is voter ID number printed on the Voter ID card).

After this, you’ll see a new dialog box asking you to select the details for your entered EPIC number. Choose the details and press “Ok”.

In the next prompt, choose the Shifting of Residence option. Then you’ll be asked to choose between “Within Assembly Constituency and Outside Assembly Constituency”.

Form 8 is in three parts. The A section requires details like Select State, District & Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency.

Section B requires personal details like name, etc.

Section C: I Submit application for. Here the optio will be selected already considering you’ve made the selection at the beginning of the process.

This section also has “Application for Shifting of Residence”. This is the place where you need to enter necessary details for change of residence. Aslo, you’ll need to upload scanned copy of proof of residence.

Water/Electricity/Gas connection Bill for that address(atleast 1 year)
Aadhaar Card
Current passbook of Nationalized/Scheduled Bank/Post Office
Indian Passport
Revenue Department's Land Owning records including Kisan Bahi
Registered Rent Lease Deed (In case of tenant)
Registered Sale Deed(In case of own house)

Once you are done filling up the Form 8. Check the details again and then click on “Preview and Submit” button at the bottom.
