Low fees, quality education draw for many Indian students in Ukraine
HYDERABAD: Close to 1,000 students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh go to Ukraine every year to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Of them, almost 80% students pursue medical, dental and nursing courses.
According to industry experts, medical education in Ukraine is recognised worldwide and is cheaper than securing a seat in a private medical college in India.
“With limited medical seats in India and tough competition, those who fail to get a seat merely by a few marks, tend to look out for options abroad. Among them, Ukraine has turned to be an ideal destination for many students due to lower learning cost and higher educational standards,” said a counsellor at an overseas educational consultancy in Punjagutta.
While a tuition fee for MBBS courses in Ukraine ranges from $3,500 to $5,000 (Rs2.62 lakh to Rs 3.75 lakh approximately), it is 7 lakh to 10 lakh in private medical institutions in India. Some of the universities and institutions based in Ukraine are 200 to 250 years old and have advanced infrastructure for medical, dental and nursing courses.
After completing medical course in Ukraine, students have to clear an screening test by the National Medical Commission to be able to practice in India. Some institutions are also popular for courses into economics, engineering, architecture, aviation among others.
