Cops in
Maharashtra may soon start charging for entry into some of its police stations after the state brings in a new law that will make it mandatory for dance bar operators to provide live CCTV feed to the nearest thanas.
“This live feed will prevent untoward activities in those bars and provide our cops some much-needed entertainment in those boring police stations,” a local neta told
Mocktale on condition of anonymity.
“However, cops will not be allowed to throw currency notes at their TV screens,” he sternly added.
The scheme, tentatively titled ‘Bar Bar Dekho’, is expected to reduce crime rate as cops will be too busy watching sleazy dance shows to register fresh FIRs, a few dubious experts said.
One police officer, Inspector Bar Tunde, was visibly excited about the project. “I got bored of seeing people behind bars. It will be a nice change to see them dancing in front of bars,” he said.
“I think the Maharashtra government has raised the bar with this move,” he added.
When asked if there were any guidelines for monitoring the dance bars, Bar Tunde beamed and said, “There is only one barcode. Thou shalt not drink milk in a bar.” We did not pursue the question.
One bar employee, who described himself as a tender-hearted bartender named Jhonny Woh Car, was unhappy with the prohibitive costs of a CCTV feed. “Everything is stacked against bars in today’s world. Even the matrimonial advertisements say ‘caste no bar, age no bar’. It’s just not fair,” he ranted, saying he had too much angst bottled inside.
“They always want us to raise the bar. Well, that’s not happening. The only time I raise the bar is when I bathe with soap,” Woh Car fumed.
Meanwhile, reports say some cops have already started advance booking for entry into their stations with live CCTV dance bar feeds.
