Foundation of democracy still strong: Sharad Pawar on Kejriwal's bail
NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar on Friday said the bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proves that the foundation of democracy in the country is still strong. The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kejriwal in the corruption case lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged excise policy scam, saying prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. "The bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal makes one thing clear that the foundation of democracy in the country is still strong. The long fight has ended with the victory of truth," Pawar said in a post on X. "Kejriwal's bail reaffirmed the feeling that the conspiracy to vanquish someone through illegitimate means will never succeed in a democratic country," the former Union minister said.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday hailed as "victory of Constitution" the bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Supreme Court. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also described Kejriwal as "popular and pro-public welfare" CM and slammed the BJP for being "against the Constitution" and "misusing" it.
"The bail of Delhi's popular and public welfare Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal is a 'victory of the Constitution'. Only those who are against the Constitution misuse the Constitution. The knock on the door of justice is always heard. The world has moved forward on this tradition till now and will continue to do so," Yadav posted in Hindi on X.

In his first remarks after being released from the Tihar Jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said he will continue to fight "anti-national" forces working to weaken the nation, and asserted the incarceration has only strengthened his resolve. Hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the Delhi excise policy case, Kejriwal stepped out of the jail to a resounding welcome by his party leaders and supporters.
Addressing party workers from the sunroof of a vehicle, Kejriwal raised slogans of 'Inquilab Zindabad' and 'Vande Mataram'.
"I want to thank people who prayed for my release. You have braved rain to come here and I am thankful to you. Every drop of my blood is dedicated in the service of my nation. In my entire life, I have faced difficulties but the God has always been with me," he said.
Kejriwal stressed that the jail time has strengthened his resolve.

Amid heavy rains in the city, hundreds of AAP leaders and workers started gathering outside Tihar jail to welcome their party supremo and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Friday welcomed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case.
He added that legal matters are resolved in court, not through elections.
"Congratulations to him. Coming out (from jail) is only through court. This is a betrayal which was done to the people of Baramulla, they were told that they could bring anyone out through vote. Nobody is released through votes, it is done only through court," he said.
Meanwhile, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal, slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shortly after the Supreme Court granted bail to the Aam Aadmi Party Convenor, stating that the BJP's plans have been ruined and they want to jail the opposition leaders to stay in power.

A Delhi court on Friday issued a release order for chief minister Arvind Kejriwal after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the alleged excise scam corruption case. Special Judge Rakesh Syal passed the order after Kejriwal's lawyers submitted a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh along with two sureties of the same amount. The court also approved the defence's request to send the release warrant via a special messenger for Kejriwal's swift release.

Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan on Friday made a observation on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal in the excise policy case, saying that it is imperative that the cenral probe agency dispel the notion of being a 'caged parrot.'
"It is imperative that the CBI dispels the notion of being a caged parrot", rather the perception should be that of an 'uncaged parrot'," said Justice Bhuyan, who authored a separate but concurring opinion in the judgement granting bail to Kejriwal.
