A harsh cold wave swept across Delhi on Thursday, dropping the season's lowest minimum temperature to 3 degree Celsius.
Earlier, frigid weather intensified across the capital on Wednesday, with the mercury dropping below 5 degrees Celsius at the city's base station Safdarjung for the first time this season, even as parts of Delhi experienced a cold wave while other parts suffered cold day conditions.
Delhi saw the year's first cold wave in isolated parts on Wednesday. The last instance was on December 26, when the Ridge recorded 3 degrees C.
A blinding layer of dense fog over north India, including Delhi, caused major inconvenience to commuters. Around 5:30 am, there was 50 meters of visibility.
Majority of people stayed inside, using space heaters and hot tea to stay warm as chilly winds from the snow-covered Himalayas swept into the plains, including the capital.
The fog has reduced visibility all over North India. Delhi airport on Thursday issued an advisory for passengers as a cold wave continued to grip the national capital.
The met department said since icy northwesterly winds are likely to continue impacting the northern plains till Friday, cold wave is expected to persist in the city over the next two days with moderate to dense fog till Saturday.
As people stayed inside their homes, they warmed up by posting memes on the cold weather.
