10,000 women set world record with Kashmiri folk dance in Baramulla
10,000 young women from Baramulla set a world record by performing the largest Kashmiri folk dance at the "Kashur Riwaaj" cultural festival. This event, held ahead of the 78th Independence Day, was organized by the Dagger Division of the Chinar Corps, the Baramulla District Administration, and the Indrani Balan Foundation.
The festival, hosted at Prof Showkat Ali Indoor Stadium, highlighted Kashmir’s traditions through music, calligraphy, and cultural performances. The main attraction was the Rouf dance, performed collectively by the participants.
“We have been rehearsing for almost a month. Now we feel all the effort was worth it. This is a great achievement, and we are proud to be part of the world record,” said one participant.
The event, supported by Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner of Baramulla, and various officials, saw the presence of Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai, Maj. Gen. Rajesh Sethi, and Brigadier Rajat Bhatt. The Universal Records Forum (URF) verified the record.
Local professor remarked, “Kashmiri culture is diverse, but today's youth show declining interest. This initiative has revived our traditions.”
The festival also featured performances by young talents like Ishfaq Hamid Bhatt and Santoor player Naseer Ahmed Mir, along with calligraphy by Shafi Mir, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir.
