KOCHI: Two Navy personnel were killed at the

INS Garuda

air station of the Southern Naval Command (SNC) at Kochi when a metal door of an aircraft hangar came off and fell on them on Thursday morning. The deceased, Naveen and Ajeet Singh, were sailors who worked at the aviation electrical branch of the naval base, the SNC said in a statement. TNN

The accident occurred around 9.20am when one of the 20-foot-tall sliding door of the hanger of Indian Naval Air Squadron 322 at the Naval Base air station dislodged and collapsed onto the personnel who were passing by. "Both the sailors suffered severe head injuries and were taken to the naval hospital, INHS Sanjivani. Efforts by doctors to resuscitate them failed and the sailors succumbed to injuries ," said the Ḥstatement.

in Haryana had joined the Navy on January 25, 2008, while Ajeet Singh from

Bharatpur district

in Rajasthan joined the force on July 29, 2009. Naveen is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter, while Ajeet Singh leaves behind his wife and five-year-old son.Reason for the collapse is not ascertained and the Navy has launched a probe.
