31 Bangladeshis fleeing Karnataka held in Assam

Preliminary investigation found they all had government documents like PAN cards and Aadhaar cards. One of them, a source said, even admitted to having a voter card. “Upon questioning, they divulged that they hail from

Bagerhat district

of Bangladesh. They had entered India three years ago and had been doing petty jobs in Bengaluru. They had reached Guwahati from Bengaluru on Sunday,” SP Hemanta Kumar Das said.

“We have registered a case under sections of the Foreigners Act and sought custody of at least five of them for five days. Bengaluru Police have also been alerted,” the SP added. Railway police sources said a recent police drive in Bengaluru was why they had fled.
