Bangladesh unrest: Air India cancels all Dhaka flights

NEW DELHI: Following weeks of violence that culminated in former Bangladesh Prime Minister fleeing the country, Air India, announced the cancellation of all its flight from Dhaka. The airline announced that it has offered affected customers a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges.

"We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Dhaka with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges," Air India said in a statement.

Sheikh Hasina resigned as Bangladesh's Prime Minister on Monday and fleed from Dhaka, accompanied by her sister, seeking a "safer place." The plane transporting them touched down at Hindon Air Base near Delhi, from where she is expected to continue her journey to London to seek refugee status. As a result of the unrest, officials reported that the Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a 'high alert' to all units stationed along the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh border.

The protests, which have claimed the lives of nearly 300 people, were fueled by demands for Hasina's resignation amidst ongoing quota protests. Despite the turmoil, the Prime Minister's son appealed to the security forces to prevent "any unelected government" from seizing power.
