NEW DELHI: After drawing blank in Bihar assembly elections, Jan Suraj party on Saturday expressed disappointed over its performance and claimed that votes shifted in favour of NDA to prevent RJD from coming to power.
Party president Uday Singh said that NDA's decision to roll out Rs 10,000 to 75 lakh women under Mukyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana had the biggest impact on the assembly results.
“The cash transfer to women’s accounts played a major role in the NDA’s victory in the Bihar polls. This support came while the Model Code of Conduct was in place. A woman who is ready to do any work for an entire day for Rs 500 will naturally cast her vote for Rs 10,000. We are disappointed with our performance in the Bihar polls. In the last 2–3 days, our votes shifted to the NDA to prevent the RJD from coming to power," Uday Singh said.
"The Delhi bomb blast had an impact in Seemanchal, as it was used to polarise votes. We failed to convince Muslim voters, and this is an area where we clearly fell short," he added.
Responding to a query on whether Prashant Kishor would remain active in politics as the JD(U) won more than 25 seats, Singh said, “You should ask this question to Kishor only”.
Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj party's state unit chief Manoj Bharti said that Bihar assembly election results were beyond party's imagination. He also alleged malpractices during the election.
"The results were beyond our imagination. Ever since they were announced, we have been discussing various aspects of what went wrong. One possibility that can't be ruled out is malpractice during the election," he said.
"Another major reason we see is the distribution of Rs 10,000 into women’s accounts right before the elections, which may have had the biggest impact on the results," he added.
The newly formed Jan Suraaj Party, founded by election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, faced a major setback in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Election, failing to secure a single seat despite contesting in almost all 243 constituencies.
Prashant Kishor officially launched the Jan Suraaj Party in Patna on October 2, 2024, stating that the party had been active since 2022.
At the time, Kishor had vowed that if elected to power, he would immediately lift the liquor ban in Bihar and use the tax revenue to upgrade the education system. Throughout his campaign, Kishor emphasised employment, infrastructure, law and order in Bihar and yet failed to win a single seat.
Despite the high-profile launch and campaign promises, the debutant party suffered poor results across constituencies. In Tarapur, its candidate Santosh Kumar managed only 3,898 votes.
Meanwhile, NDA registered a historic landslide victory in the 2025 Bihar Elections, winning 202 of the 243 seats in the state; meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan could only secure 35 seats.
NDA secured a three-fourths majority in the 243-member House. This is the second time the NDA has crossed the 200 mark in the assembly polls. In the 2010 polls, it had won 206 seats.
In the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) won 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV) won 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) won five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats, Indian National Congress 6, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) - CPI(ML)(L) - two, Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) - one, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) - CPI(M) - one seat.
All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won five seats, and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got one seat.
The Bihar assembly elections were conducted across two phases on November 6 and 11, respectively. Bihar recorded a historic 67.13% voter turnout, the highest since 1951, with women voters outpacing men (71.6% vs 62.8%).
