NEW DELHI: BJP on Sunday deplored Congress's demand for "special law" for Sonia Gandhi-Rahul Gandhi family and alleged that the "so-called satyagrah" by the opposition party at the Gandhi Samadhi was nothing but bigotry and an attempt of masquerading their arrogance and stubbornness as the party was protesting against a court order leading to the disqualification of Rahul as an MP.

Addressing party workers in Bhopal, BJP president JP Nadda took a veiled swipe at Rahul, saying the Congress leader is nursing a big ego. "What is the purpose of your satyagraha? You don't have faith in the law. You hurl caste abuse. The court says to tender an apology but you have an ego, you don't (apologise). Your membership (of Parliament) is gone but your ego remains".
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference in New Delhi that Rahul had displayed arrogance and swagger when he tore up the copy of the ordinance aimed at protecting convicted lawmakers and has shown the same traits when that very law has been applied against him, leading to his instant disqualification as an MP.
"How can you do both... collect applause by tearing copy of a government ordinance and playing the victim card when the same is used against you," the BJP functionary asked.
In response to Rahul's remarks that he does not apologise, Trivedi reminded him that he did apologise to the Supreme Court for twisting the apex court's observation to say that it had endorsed his "Chaukidar chor hai" slogan.
"The people who make derogatory remarks against the entire democracy, and what they are doing at the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi in the name of satyagrah, there is no semblance of truth but a display of shameless arrogance," Trivedi said and added, "Gandhiji did his first satyagrah for a social cause whereas here they are seen doing it against the court after being convicted for their own personal reasons... It is not satyagrah but duragrah (bigotry)."

The BJP functionary said every time Rahul speaks against India, talks about his hatred against backward society and when he is punished by the court and tries to make it a political issue, impudence and shamelessness on the part of the Congress leaders are visible. "Congress party considers themselves superior to the judicial jurisprudence of the court. And they will decide in what manner and on what basis the court should give its verdict," Trivedi said.
The BJP functionary also took a swipe at the Opposition over the recent remarks of Pramod Tiwari, who said punishment should be decided seeing family's background.
"In the Rajya Sabha, their (Congress) deputy leader Pramod Tiwari said that punishment should be given after looking at the family's background... They still want two legislations in one country. One law for the common man and one law for his family," Trivedi said.
Referring to Priyanka Vadra's mention of Lord Ram in her speech, Trivedi said, "Gandhiji's political philosophy was 'Ram Rajya'. His daily hymn was 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram...' His last words were 'Hey Ram'... and they (Congress) stood against the temple of Ram. And, those who call Ram imaginary are using the word Ram today to hide their ego..."
