patna: the patna high court has ordered a cbi probe into the alleged irregularities in appointments and defalcation of crores of rupees in the bihar agriculture department. a division bench comprising chief justice r s dhawan and justice shashank kumar singh on friday ordered the cbi to take up the case after it felt that the state vigilance department, earlier looking into the case, was taking the matter too lightly.
the bench passed the order after hearing a pil filed by a legislator b k yadavendu alleging large-scale illegal appointments, diversion of funds without approval and excess withdrawals in the agriculture department, particularly during the period when ramjivan singh was rjd minister for agriculture in the state. singh is now jd-u lok sabha member from balia. the court had earlier asked the vigilance department to probe the allegations. the court took exception to the manner in which the vigilance department handled the case and observed that it was taking the matter far too lightly and entrusted the task to the cbi.
