Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren wins vote of confidence

NEW DELHI: Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Monday won the trust vote in assembly with 47 MLAs of the JMM-led coalition backing his government. Moving the trust motion, Champai Soren said "My govt is part 2 of ex-Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren's administration." The Jharkhand chief minister accused the BJP of using central agencies to frame Hemant Soren in false cases.

Champai Soren took oath as Jharkhand chief minister after the resignation of Hemant Soren, who had to quit following his questioning and arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam.

Last week, the ruling JMM-led alliance had flown its MLAs to a resort in Hyderabad to safeguard against possible poaching attempts. The MLAs were brought back to Ranchi on Sunday ahead of the confidence vote.

Champai Soren said in Jharkhand's history, whenever the tribals try to increase their capacity, an attempt is made to suppress their leadership. "Today the whole country is seeing how injustice is being done to Hemant Soren. If you go to any village, you will find Hemant Soren's schemes in every house," he said.
