RAIPUR: A day before Bastar goes for polls, Maoists trigger an IED blast in Kanker district leaving two polling personnel and a Border Security Force jawan injured on Monday.
Kanker police said that a joint team of BSF personnel and district police were proceeding towards Rengagondi polling station in Rengaghati from Marbeda camp. Around 4 pm, a pressure IED blew up near Rengagondi region and BSF constable Chandrprakash Sewal along with two polling personnel sustained injuries due to the blast.
Police said that the injured were rushed to Chotebethiya hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. The other members of the polling team have reached the polling station.
Polling begins at 7 am and ends at 3 PM in Bastar region on November 7.
According to sources, polling parties in Bijapur district have initially refused of going to the polling booths located in interiors and due to Maoists warning the polling personnel not to come with security forces.
The polling parties will now be taken on bikes and few airdropped for safe polling.
