Four states in India - Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka - account for 70% of the 5,915 active Covid cases in India as of Sunday morning, according to ministry of health & family welfare data. Daily cases in India since January 2023

A total of 92.03 crore tests for detection of Covid have been conducted so far with 44,225 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

According to the data updated at 8am, the daily positivity was recorded at 2.08 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.86 per cent. The infection tally stands at 4.46 crore (4,46,96,338).

Four new Covid cases have been reported in Lucknow, which took the total number of active cases to 12. This is for the first time this year that four cases have been reported in a single day. India's Covid graph remains stable

India saw a single-day rise of more than 1,000 fresh Covid-19 cases after 129 days, while the active cases increased to 5,915, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Sunday. A total of 1,071 fresh cases were reported in the county in a span of 24 hours, while the death toll increased to 5,30,802 with three latest fatalities -- one each reported in Rajasthan and Maharashtra and one reconciled in Kerala.

Maharashtra reports 3 more flu fatalities, Covid death

The state recorded three more flu deaths on Saturday, taking the total such deaths since January to seven so far. Covid-19, too, claimed a life in Thane on Saturday. State public health department officials however refused to state whether influenza A’s H1N1 subtype or H3N2 subtype was the cause of the three deaths. “These are deaths suspected due to the flu viruses, and the state death committee will determine the exact cause,” said a state health official. India is witnessing a flu epidemic, mainly due to the H3N2 virus, since December, according to Union health officials. However, in the last one month, there has also been a steep rise in the number of fever cases caused by H1N1, adenoviruses and Covid-causing SARS-CoV-2 virus; children and the elderly are among the most affected so far.

The XBB 1.16 variant was first found in January when two samples tested positive for the variant while in February a total of 59 samples were found.

Maharashtra on Saturday recorded 249 new coronavirus infections and one pandemic-related death. The number of active patients rose to 1,164, the health department said in a release. The state's Covid-19 case tally rose to 81,39,501 and death toll to 1,48, 428. On Friday, Maharashtra had recorded 197 new cases and one fatality.
