Covid-19: In vaccine diplomacy, India exported 37% of doses as grants

BENGALURU: From mid-January to the second week of February, India has exported over 1.6 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines to 20 countries. The doses went to countries in the immediate neighbourhood to west asia

Africa

and the Americas. About 62.7 lakh of the exported doses are gifts to friendly nations, reports Chethan Kumar.

Data made public by the Union health ministry shows India will earn revenue from shipments of about 63% of the vaccines sent to the UAE, Kuwait, South Africa, Algeria,

Egypt

,

Morocco

,

Brazil

and Bangladesh.

Together, these countries received over one crore doses, all supplied between January 25 and February 2.

Of these, Bangladesh (50 lakh doses) followed by Brazil and Morocco (20 lakh each) have purchased the highest volumes, while South Africa bought 10 lakh doses. Four other nations together purchased five lakh doses.
