AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls will expose the "jugalbandi" between the Congress and the BJP. Kejriwal said that he spoke just one line about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the response is coming from the BJP.

"Look how much trouble the BJP is facing. This Delhi election will perhaps expose the 'jugalbandi' going on behind the scenes between the Congress and the BJP for years," he said in a post on X.

The AAP supremo was referring to BJP IT department head Amit Malviya's post.

AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to influence voters by distributing money and goods. He urged the public not to sell their votes, emphasising that they are more valuable than "diamonds."

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal criticised the BJP for resorting to "dishonesty" after failing to present a vision or a Chief Ministerial candidate. He claimed that the BJP distributed money in some areas, with leaders pocketing most of the funds meant for the public. "Their party sent Rs 10,000, but their leaders kept Rs 9,000 and distributed only Rs 1,000," Kejriwal said, adding that people in areas where money was not distributed were upset.

He further alleged that BJP leaders had started distributing gold chains in certain colonies, questioning where other public funds, such as saris and blankets, had gone.

Kejriwal urged the public to take the goods offered by BJP but to not sell their votes. "Our vote is more precious than diamonds. Even if you don't vote for AAP, don't vote for those distributing these things, as they are traitors to the country," he said, condemning the BJP for what he described as their arrogance in trying to buy votes.

Additionally, Kejriwal called for action against BJP's Parvesh Verma, alleging that he violated the Model Code of Conduct by distributing money and goods, including health camp glasses, and announcing job fairs. AAP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Verma, urging that he be barred from contesting the elections.

The Delhi assembly polls are scheduled for February 5, with the vote count set for February 8.

EC orders transfer of AAP candidate's voter ID to Delhi: Kejriwal

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has approved the transfer of AAP leader Awadh Ojha's name from the voter rolls in Greater Noida to Delhi, enabling him to file his nomination for Patparganj, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday. The development came after a delegation of AAP, led by Kejriwal, met ECI officials to address the issue.
"The good news is that Awadh Ojha's vote will be shifted and the commission has issued order to transfer his vote, and he will be able to file the nomination," Kejriwal said.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal alleged irregularities in the electoral process, claiming that Ojha had filed Form 8 to transfer his vote on January 7'” the official deadline. He also accused the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer of unlawfully advancing the deadline to January 6.

Kejriwal said the move as an attempt to "deliberately debar" Ojha from contesting the upcoming elections, saying it was against the law.

The AAP leader also made serious accusations against the BJP's candidate from the New Delhi constituency, Parvesh Verma, alleging distribution of cash, jackets and other items such as bedsheets, shoes and glasses to sway voters. He further alleged that local authorities, including the District Magistrate (DM), were complicit in covering up these actions.

"Blankets were distributed in Kidwai Nagar, shoes were distributed in another colony, jackets in another, and cash and glasses are also being handed out. But, the local DM's report states that no such activity is happening," claimed Kejriwal who is contesting from the New Delhi seat.

The AAP chief also claimed that the Election Commission had assured him of appropriate action against the New Delhi DM following these complaints.

"The Election Commission has assured us that all these activities will be stopped. We thank the Election Commission for their prompt response and assurance." he said.

Kejriwal further said that the party has once again requested the suspension of the DM and strict action against him, along with the cessation of all these illegal activities.

Responding to the allegations, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said "out of desperation" over AAP's "certain defeat", Kejriwal has now started "maligning" the poll bodies.

On Awadh Ojha's transfer, Sachdeva said, "I have a simple question for Arvind Kejriwal. When Awadh Ojha joined the AAP on December 2 and it was decided that he would contest the elections, why did they wait till the last date of the vote transfer process?"

Kejriwal is himself facing a massive defeat in the New Delhi assembly constituency and the AAP convenor has a habit of levelling allegations against the election machinery before the polls, Sachdeva added.

With assembly polls in Delhi just weeks away, the political battle between the AAP and BJP is intensifying and both parties are trading allegations over a barrage of issues.

Voting will be held for the assembly polls in Delhi on February 5 and results will be declared on February 8.

'What honesty are you talking about': Congress' Sandeep Dikshit slams Atishi for crowdfunding

Congress candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, Sandeep Dikshit, on Monday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Atishi for her 'crowdfunding campaign' to contest the election, saying that the ruling AAP is spending much more than the expenditure limit.
He alleged that AAP is spending Rs 500 to 700 on each volunteer. He stated that the party had appointed around 11 to 12 volunteers in each booth.

"...Their (AAP) paid volunteers are on the ground with 11-12 of them at each booth. Each volunteer is being paid Rs 500-700. This only amounts to Rs 3-Rs 4 crore in every constituency. You are spending 3-4 times above the expenditure limit. So what honesty are you talking about?" the Congress leader questioned.

Notably, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi raised more than Rs 15 lakh through her online portal on Sunday. Atishi has set a goal of garnering Rs 40 lakh as her election campaign fund, contesting from the Kalkaji Assembly constituency. As of January 10, 5:30 PM, the party's donation page shows 278 people have donated a total of Rs 15,15,930 to her.

Election Commission of India has restricted a candidate to spend Rs 40 lakh for one assembly seat in the election polls.

He further targeted AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal over his allegations that the BJP has "tendered" the land for the Shakur Basti slum and termed his claim as a 'lie.'

" The LG's clarification has caught Kejriwal's lies. I don't understand why Kejriwal lies so much. If you had done work for 'jhuggis,' then you would not have had to lie so much... 10-12 years ago, when Sheila ji used to contest elections from the New Delhi seat, there were around 45,000 voters from jhuggi clusters in the constituency. Today, only 7000-8000 voters are left. During the G20 and before that, many jhuggi clusters were removed from here. Where did jhuggi dwellers go? 30,000 voters from the constituency have been thrown out of here; we don't even know where they are. Why did Kejriwal not protest over this? Congress leaders used to lie down in front of bulldozers to prevent the razing of jhuggis...A man who cannot ensure the rights of those in his constituency cannot say anything on any issue." Dikshit told ANI.

This comes after Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the BJP has "tendered" the land for the Shakur Basti slum. He accused LG Saxena of "changing the rules.".

Following this, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena slammed Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, calling his statement on Shakur Basti "a complete lie."

Congress has fielded Sandeep Dikshit as their candidate against AAP's Arvind Kejriwal and BJP's Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi assembly constituency.

'Delhi polls will expose 'Jugalbandi' going on between Congress, BJP for years': Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday claimed that the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections would expose the long-standing alliance between the Congress and BJP, calling it a "jugalbandi" (duet). His remarks came after BJP leader Amit Malviya responded to Kejriwal’s comments about Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

In a post on X, Kejriwal stated, "I said just one line about Rahul Gandhi, and the reply is coming from the BJP. Look how much trouble the BJP is facing. Perhaps this Delhi election will expose the 'jugalbandi' going on behind the scenes between Congress and BJP for years."

On Monday, Kejriwal had criticised Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress leader’s focus was on saving his party, while Kejriwal's own battle was to "save the country." "Today Rahul Gandhi came to Delhi. He abused me a lot. But I will not comment on his statements. His fight is to save Congress, my fight is to save the country," Kejriwal said.

In response, BJP leader Malviya posted on X, "Worry about the country later, save your New Delhi seat for now."

Rahul Gandhi, during a public address in Seelampur, Delhi, took aim at both the BJP and AAP. He questioned the actions of Prime Minister Modi and Kejriwal in addressing inflation and aiding the poor. "I wish to ask, is inflation increasing or decreasing? What did Kejriwal and PM Modi say on inflation? They said they would reduce inflation. Has it been reduced? The poor are becoming poorer, and the rich are becoming richer," Gandhi said.

He further criticised both leaders for their silence on the growing influence of billionaires, saying, "There are 100 to 150 billionaires who are controlling the country. They get all the privileges. Have you ever seen PM Modi speaking about Adani and Ambani? Has Kejriwal ever said anything about Adani?"

'Winnability matters more than numbers': Chirag Paswan eyes seats for Delhi assembly polls

With the 2025 Delhi assembly elections approaching, Union Minister Chirag Paswan clarified his party's stance on contesting the polls. He announced that the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will focus on contesting seats that will strengthen the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

“Our policy is to strengthen the NDA, and we will contest only those seats where we have a strong chance of winning. Just like in Jharkhand, winnability will be the key factor in the Delhi elections. We will not stretch our reach by contesting more seats than we can manage,” Paswan told reporters.

He also accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal of insulting people from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Paswan claimed that Kejriwal’s comments labelling these voters as 'fake' would not be forgotten by the electorate. "The people of Delhi are calling for mercy after the false promises made by Kejriwal and AAP. Delhi will vote with this in mind, and the BJP-led NDA will form the next government," Paswan said.

The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, and the scrutiny of nominations will take place on January 18, with the withdrawal deadline on January 20.

In the 2020 Delhi elections, AAP emerged victorious, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured just eight seats. The Congress, which had ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, failed to win any seats in the last two elections.

Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: Items worth over Rs 21 crore seized within week of MCC coming into force

The office of the Delhi chief electoral officer (CEO) informed on Monday that in the run-up to the Assembly polls in the capital, cash and other items like liquor, worth more than Rs 21 crore, have been seized by various departments within a week of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) coming into effect. The MCC was implemented on January 7, immediately after the announcement of the poll schedule. Voting for Delhi's 70 Assembly constituencies is scheduled to take place on February 5, with the results set to be declared on February 8.
The MCC is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC) to ensure free and fair polls. It regulates the conduct of the political parties and candidates, covering areas such as meetings, processions, election manifestoes, polling and general behaviour during the electoral process.

According to data provided by the Delhi CEO's office, the highest value of seized items was reported in East Delhi, amounting to Rs 6.83 crore. South Delhi followed closely with Rs 6.81 crore, while the New Delhi area recorded the lowest seizures worth Rs 3.9 lakh.

In all, items worth Rs 21.89 crore have been confiscated across the capital. This includes Rs 9.8 crore in cash, precious metals worth Rs 6.1 crore, drugs worth Rs 5.05 crore, freebies worth more than Rs 47 lakh and liquor worth over Rs 45 lakh.

Earlier in the day, during an interaction with the media, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Alice Vaz said preparations for the Assembly polls are progressing smoothly.

Training programmes for the polling personnel have begun and critical data related to nominations, permissions and enforcement activities are being monitored daily, she added.

The CEO emphasised the importance of mapping the vulnerable and critical polling stations to ensure smooth voting.

"We will follow all the instructions of the Election Commission of India for the mapping of the vulnerable polling stations," she said.

Police deployments and security arrangements for the elections are yet to be finalised, Vaz noted.

Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: Atishi may file nomination papers today

Seeking re-election from the Kalkaji assembly constituency, chief minister Atishi on Monday held a nomination rally. She, however, did not file her nomination and will go to the office of the returning officer on Tuesday. Atishi began her day by offering prayers at the Kalkaji temple and paying respects at the Giri Nagar gurdwara. She was accompanied by senior AAP functionary and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Officials said 20 sets of nomination papers were submitted on Monday. So far, 26 candidates have filed their nominations, while the number of documents submitted has reached 29. The last day to file nominations for the Feb 5 election is Jan 17.

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal along with other party leaders visited the Election Commission of India on Monday and addressed key issues, including alleged distribution of goods in New Delhi Assembly Constituency and the voter registration of party's Patparganj candidate Awadh Ojha.
Speaking with press after visiting ECI, Kejriwal said that he discussed the issue of "distribution of goods" in Kidwai Nagar and urged ECI to take action in the matter.

"Yesterday, blankets were distributed in Kidwai Nagar, shoes, jackets were distributed, money was distributed, spectacles were distributed. Local DM's report says nothing is happening. So we said that this means that Local DM is involved. We requested that DM should be suspended and this kind of activities should be stopped," Kejriwal said.

"The Election Commission has also assured us that all these activities will be stopped, so we are very grateful to the Election Commission for their response," he added.

Arvind Kejriwal is up against BJP's Parvesh Verma and Congress' Sandeep Dikshit in the Delhi Assembly Election.

Kejriwal also addressed the issue of voter registration of their Patparganj candidate Awadh Ojha, which was prohibiting him to file for nomination from the seat. He said that ECI has ordered to shift of the vote of Awadh Ojha.

"The Election Commission has ordered to shift the vote of Awadh Ojha, and he will be the voter and will be able to cast his vote. He will be able to file his nomination too." Kejriwal said.

AAP candidate Ojha, will be up against BJP's Ravinder Singh Negi and Congress' Anil Kumar from the Patparganj Assembly Constituency.

Delhi CM Atishi, Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, Rajyasabha MP Sanajay Singh and Raghav Chadha were also present with Kejriwal.

The Delhi assembly polls will be held in a single phase on February 5 and the counting of votes will take place on February 8.

The last date for filing nominations is January 17. The date for scrutiny of nominations is January 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 20.

Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: CAG reports in assembly: Unfortunate Delhi govt dragged feet on tabling, says HC

The Delhi High Court on Monday said CAG reports over city administration should have been promptly placed before the assembly for discussion and the state government "dragging its feet" on the issue raised "doubts on its bonafides". Justice Sachin Datta, who was hearing a petition by the opposition MLAs from BJP, asked if the court could direct the speaker, having the "prerogative", to call a sitting of the assembly when elections were around the corner.
"The way you dragged your feet raises doubts about your bonafides.. You should have promptly forwarded the reports to the speaker for having a discussion on the floor of the assembly," the court said.

The judge went on, "You have dragged your feet to avoid having a discussion.. See the number of dates you held onto the report, and the time taken to send them to the LG, and then forwarding it to the speaker...The timeline is stark. See the way you have been dragging your feet is something that is unfortunate."

Opposition leader Vijender Gupta and BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai and Jitendra Mahajan filed the petition last year and sought a direction to the speaker to call a sitting of the assembly for the purpose of tabling the CAG (comptroller and auditor general) reports.

Senior counsel for the government raised an objection over the "political" nature of the petition, and alleged the LG office made the reports public and shared it with newspapers.

"How does it matter?" asked the court.

The CAG, in its reports, was critical of some of the AAP-led Delhi government's policies, including its now-scrapped excise policy for reportedly causing losses to the exchequer.

The senior counsel for the government accused the petitioners of using court as a "tool for political gain" and urged it to note that they held a press conference when the matter was sub judice.

Justice Datta said the court couldn't "react" to the allegation as it was not concerned with politics.

The assembly secretariat had said no useful purpose would be served in tabling the CAG reports before the assembly as its tenure was ending in February.

No judicial order could be passed to the speaker in matters of internal functioning of the legislative assembly, it said.

The senior counsel, appearing for the petitioners, during the Monday hearing submitted the court was empowered to direct the speaker to call a sitting of the assembly for tabling the reports.

He said the failure to place the reports for discussion was not a matter of mere proceedings but a "substantive illegality" and a violation of the constitutional mandate -- an issue the courts could deal with.

Delhi assembly, it was argued, was still in session as there was no declaration of prorogation by the speaker.

"Assembly was adjourned sine die on December 4 (2024) by the speaker. But that does not cause the death of the session. There was no prorogation," argued the petitioners' counsel.

The assembly secretariat, in its response, said the CAG reports could now be examined as per the legal framework by the successor public accounts committee (PAC) of the legislature which would be elected by the next assembly post Delhi elections.

It also said the matter of execution of the speaker's power to regulate the house could be questioned before any court in the country.

The LG, on the other hand, said the high court was empowered to direct the speaker to immediately ensure the tabling of the reports before the house.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has accused the BJP of election irregularities and failing to fulfil its promise of including the Jat community in the Central OBC list. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kejriwal demanded clarity on the issue and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not addressing the community's concerns.

"The BJP can abuse me all they want, but when will the Jat community, already in Delhi's OBC list, be added to the Central OBC list? This promise was made in 2015. The PM visits Delhi for speeches but has yet to answer this," he remarked.

Kejriwal revealed that he had written to the PM on January 9, urging action on the matter, while accusing the BJP of misleading the community with empty promises for a decade.

He also raised concerns over voter registration irregularities in Delhi. The AAP chief claimed that Awadh Ojha, the party's candidate from Patparganj, faced hurdles transferring his vote from Greater Noida to Delhi due to conflicting deadlines issued by election authorities. Kejriwal suggested the changes might be a deliberate attempt to disqualify Ojha.

Additionally, Kejriwal alleged unusual surges in voter registrations from BJP leaders' residences in the New Delhi constituency. "Such irregularities jeopardise election integrity. Delhi voters will not tolerate such fraud," he warned.

The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh has highlighted the party’s new initiative, the "Jeevan Raksha Yojana," as a cornerstone for a prosperous Delhi ahead of the Assembly elections on February 5. Sharing his views on X, Ramesh wrote, "Milegi Swasth Suraksha, hogi har zaroorat puri, khush-haal Delhi ke liye Congress hai zaroori" (Will get health protection, every need will be fulfilled. For a prosperous Delhi, Congress is necessary).

Unveiled on January 8 by former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the scheme promises a health cover of ₹25 lakh per family. Gehlot called it a "game changer" and drew parallels with Rajasthan's successful Chiranjeevi Yojana. Speaking at a press conference, he remarked, “This health insurance scheme will benefit everyone, unlike Ayushman Bharat, which has limitations. I am confident this will bring positive change in Delhi.” Gehlot also expressed optimism about the Congress campaign, saying, “The political scenario in Delhi has shifted, and we anticipate better results this time.”

However, the announcement faced sharp criticism from the BJP. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated, “Congress has lost the trust of the people; this scheme will not help them in the elections.” Union Minister Harsh Malhotra questioned why Congress did not implement similar programmes in its own states.

The Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, will see the Congress attempting to regain its influence after failing to secure any seats in the 2020 elections, where AAP won 62 of the 70 seats, leaving the BJP with just eight.

Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: Items worth over Rs 21 crore seized within week of MCC coming into force

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced on Monday that cash and goods, including liquor, worth over Rs 21 crore had been seized within a week of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being enforced in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections. The MCC came into effect on January 7, following the announcement of the election schedule. Voting for Delhi's 70 Assembly seats is slated for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8.

The MCC, issued by the Election Commission (EC), outlines rules to ensure fair and transparent elections. It governs the behaviour of political parties and candidates, covering aspects such as rallies, manifestos, polling conduct, and general election-related activities.

Data from the Delhi CEO’s office shows that East Delhi recorded the highest seizures, valued at Rs 6.83 crore, closely followed by South Delhi at Rs 6.81 crore. Meanwhile, New Delhi reported the lowest confiscations at Rs 3.9 lakh.

The total value of items seized across Delhi stands at Rs 21.89 crore, comprising Rs 9.8 crore in cash, precious metals worth Rs 6.1 crore, drugs valued at Rs 5.05 crore, freebies exceeding Rs 47 lakh, and liquor worth over Rs 45 lakh.

Delhi CEO Alice Vaz, in a media briefing, stated that preparations for the elections are on track. She highlighted that training for polling personnel has commenced and that data related to nominations, permissions, and enforcement activities is being reviewed daily. She also stressed the importance of identifying vulnerable and critical polling stations to facilitate smooth voting.

"We will adhere to all directives from the Election Commission of India for mapping vulnerable polling stations," Vaz assured. However, she noted that police deployments and election security plans are still being finalised.
