NEW DELHI: Union home minister in a public address in Assam's Dibrugarh launched scathing attacks at Congress and Rahul Gandhi. Accusing the LoP of disrespecting the state's culture, the home minister blamed him for the violence and chaos in Assam.
Addressing the public rally in poll-bound Assam, Shah said, "Rahul Gandhi (was the) only person during the President's At Home event to not wear Assam's gamosa... I want to ask Congress, Rahul Gandhi did not wear Assam's gamosa. Everyone present at the President's house, including the international guests, wore it. What enmity does Rahul Gandhi have with the northeast? BJP won't allow insult of region's culture."
Further attacking the opposition of instigating chaos and violence in the state, he said, "I ask Rahul Gandhi what Congress has given to Assam except guns, bullets, conflicts and deaths."
Pointing at the issue of infiltration and encroachment, Shah also trained the gun on the opposition of using it as a method of increasing their vote bank. He said, "Congress used infiltration as a weapon for its vote bank politics."
Shah then went on to highlight the projects fulfilled by the BJP government in Assam, stating, "Be it railways, waterways, airports, or setting up industries, every sector sees Assam prioritised by the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
He further added, "A few days ago, on 26-27 January, the Indian government signed a free trade agreement with 27 countries of the European Union. The biggest benefit of this free trade agreement is going to be for the people of Dibrugarh... Tea produced in the tea gardens here will reach European morning tea cups with zero tariff across all 27 European countries."
Amit Shah, on Friday, unveiled multiple development projects in Assam worth Rs 1,715, including laying the foundation stone for the second legislative assembly complex worth Rs 284 crore.
