ED moves Delhi court against Arvind Kejriwal for not complying with summons
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday moved to Rouse avenue court and filed a complaint against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for not complying with the summons issued by the agency in the Delhi liquor policy money laundering case.
Court heard some submissions today and put up for February 7, for the remaining submissions and consideration.
The agency had asked Kejriwal to appear before it on December 21. In November too, ED had summoned the Delhi chief minister in connection with the case. However, Kejriwal had skipped the summons, saying that the notice was "vague, motivated and unsustainable in law".
The probe agency had told the Supreme Court earlier that it wanted to investigate AAP as a beneficiary of the alleged bribes, the “proceeds of crime” in ED’s parlance.
The ED had made the submission after the court asked why it had not made AAP an accused in the case despite claiming that the bribes earned from allegedly favouring a cartel of liquor dealers were used to fund the Kejriwal-led party’s election campaign in Goa.
The policy was subsequently scrapped and the Delhi lieutenant governor recommended a CBI probe, following which the ED registered a case under the PMLA. ED has already arrested AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh for their alleged involvement in the case.
