NEW DELHI: At a time when the entire nation is reeling under cash crunch following demonetisation of currency notes, Gujarati folk singers were showered with about Rs 40 lakhs, in 10 and 20 rupee notes, during a musical event in state's
Navsari (near Surat) district.
A video of people showering folk singers with lower denomination notes during a musical event went viral on social media on Sunday. This incident comes at a time when people across the country are facing cash crunch and banks have put up banners saying they do not have enough cash.
The event was organised by the Shri Gurjar Kshatriya Kadia Samaj yesterday night. The audience showered Rs 10 and Rs 20 currency notes on folk singers Farida Mir and Mayabai Ahir.
The organisers, however, claimed that the money collected during the program will be used for social work.
Earlier this month, popular Gujarati folk singer
Kirtidan Gadhvi was showered with new currency notes of Rs 2,000 while performing during dayro festival.
