For BSP leaders, it's the family at work

LUCKNOW: Contrary to chief minister Mayawati's claim that she doesn't promote her family members in politics, her party leaders have openly indulged in nepotism. About one third of the 32 candidates named by BSP for the forthcoming legislative council elections happen to be relatives of party MPs and MLAs.
While PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui has managed a ticket for his wife Husna Siddiqui from the Banda-Hamirpur constituency, energy minister Ramveer Upadhayaya has secured BSP nomination for his brother Mukul Upadhayaya for the Aligarh-Hathras seat.
If Rajya Sabha member Brijesh Pathak has got a ticket for his brother-in-law Arvind Tripathi from Lucknow-Unnao, wife of MLA Dhirendra Pratap Singh, Savita Singh, is in the fray from the Gonda-Balrampur seat.
Manoj Singh, brother of MLA Jitendra Singh, is party nominee from the Faizabad seat and ex-MLA Dilip Verma's wife Madhuri Verma has been fielded from Bahraich-Srawasti. Annapurna Singh, sister-in-law of Sushil Singh, MLA from Dhanpur, will contest from the Varanasi-Chandauli on a BSP ticket.
