M Hilarian, 51, C David, 40, K Prabhu, 33, and M Anthony Raj, 44, who hail from Kadiapattinam in Kanyakumari district, were working for a fishing company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They were apprehended by Iranian naval agencies on February 7 for allegedly trespassing into the territorial waters of

.

When the whereabouts of these fishermen were not known, the International Fishermen Development Trust in Kanyakumari approached Indian embassy in the UAE. Later, it was found that the fishermen lodged in Bandar Abbas prison in Iran. The NGO also sent memoranda to state and central governments appealing diplomatic measures to secure their release.

“Our fishermen started from Iran on Saturday and reached Chennai on Sunday. They will arrive in their native village on Monday morning. We are thankful to the efforts of state and central governments in securing their release,” said P Justin Antony of the International Fishermen Development Trust.
