'Developed hatred against country': BJP accuses Congress of wanting to 'crash entire stock market'

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Congress of engaging in "chit politics" following the Congress' demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the recent Hindenburg research report. The report claimed that Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch had stakes in "obscure offshore entities" allegedly involved in the Adani money siphoning scandal. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad alleged that the Congress aims to "crash the entire stock market".

"But what should be done about the chits that the Congress party and its leaders get?...They want to crash the entire stock market, stop the capital investment of small investors," the BJP MP said.

Ravi Shankar also alleged that the Congress in their "hatred" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi has developed "hatred against India itself".

"He (Soros) is the main investor there...In their pathological hatred against Narendra Modi, the Congress Party today has developed hatred against India itself," the BJP MP said.

He further said that the Congress party is only interested in making accusations without proof. He cited the example of the Pegasus probe and claimed that while Rahul Gandhi made claims of spying on his mobile phone, the Congress leader did not cooperate with the investigation in the case.

Ravi Shankar also alleged that the Congress Party involved in "creating economic anarchy in India based on ficticious reports."

On Saturday, Hindenburg research has leveled accusations against the head of India's securities regulator, Madhabi Puri Buch alleging that she possessed interests in "obscure offshore entities used in Adani money siphoning scandal."

Based on documents provided by a whistleblower, Hindenburg asserted that Buch and her spouse owned stakes in an offshore fund that received a significant investment from Vinod Adani, the sibling of Gautam Adani, who leads the Adani group of companies.

Congress leader Pawan Khera demanded that Sebi, PM Modi, and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman provide a detailed, point-by-point response to the issues raised by Hindenburg Research. He also questioned whether she disclosed her investments in offshore companies before becoming the SEBI Chairperson and if the Government of India suspected that her companies had investments in Vinod Adani's offshore companies.

"When will SEBI, PM and Nirmala Sitharaman give a point-wise reply to the factual and point-wise issues raised by Hindenburg? We are waiting for that date," Khera said.

"Before becoming SEBI Chairperson did she disclose her investments in off-shore companies? Did the Government of India suspect that her companies had investments in Gautam Adani's brother Vinod Adani's off-shore companies," the Congress leader questioned.
