According to police, Dinesh was working as a courier for the modules of terror outfit. An attempt to murder case has also been registered against him.
SSP R K Jaiswal said lust for money and thrill for weapons were the main motivating factors, while ideological orientation played only a small part. The accused were barely earning and this led them to get involved with the terror outfit, he said.
DSP (rural-I) Manjit Singh said Ranbir Singh alias Saabi, who is son of an ASI posted in Bathinda, was arrested on Tuesday while Manjit Singh alias Jeeta, Amandeep Singh, both from Bhogpur and Kuldeep Singh of Basti Bawa Khel were arrested on Monday.
Jaiswal said the accused had become active around six months back and were in touch with Germany-based Harminder Singh alias Mintu and Paramjit Singh Pamma. Saabi and Manjit had gone to Malaysia three months back to meet their handlers, he said.
The accused had gone to Barmer in Rajasthan to bring a consignment of RDX, which was later recovered. A team of Rajasthan police had also reached Jalandhar to question the accused, according to Jaiswal. Meanwhile, police have also recovered two foreign-made pistols.
DSP Manjit Singh said that one Jaswinder Singh, lodged in Jalandhar central jail in an attempt to murder case, was also linked with the accused and would be brought here for questioning on a production warrant.
