The Maharashtra government’s decision to form a state-level committee to monitor interfaith marriages hasn’t quite gladdened the hearts of men and women who have defied social norms to marry outside their religion.
Though the Interfaith Marriage-Family Coordination Committee’s stated aim is to “help” such couples lead peaceful and fulfilling married lives, none of the couples TOI+ spoke with believe the government is really concerned about the quality of their married lives.
