BHOPAL: A Muslim man from Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur was assaulted by alleged members of Hindu outfits in Bhopal district court complex Friday after he arrived to register his marriage with an 18-year-old Hindu woman. Police filed a case against him after the woman and her mother filed a complaint claiming he had been 'harassing her' since she was a minor.
A now-viral video of the assault showed the man being beaten inside the court complex. However, police did not register an FIR on his application, and only filed a 'non-cognisable report'. They said they didn't find anything on the video to warrant stiffer charges or even an FIR.
After the couple arrived at court to register their marriage, someone informed members of a Hindu outfit about the interfaith marriage. Some of them rushed to court and accused the man of 'love jihad', and thrashed him. A video showed the Muslim man holding his ears while some men questioned him. Police then took the couple into custody. The woman's family was called to Bhopal. After speaking with them, police registered a case against the man.
