Pak army chief visits forward positions along Line of Control

Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir visited the forward positions along the Line of Control (LoC) and interacted with the troops.

During the interaction, Gen Munir lauded troops’ high morale, operational preparedness, and vigilance, the army said in a statement.

He was visiting the army's forward positions along the LoC to celebrate Eid ul-Azha with troops, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing, said in the statement.

Gen Munir told soldiers and officers on the frontline that celebrating the Eid away from loved ones, reflected their profound commitment to national service, the statement said.

"Pakistani Generals want conflict, terrorists are their tools": BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad in Berlin

BJP MP and leader of the all-party delegation Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday sharply criticised Pakistan's military establishment, asserting that its Generals orchestrate conflicts to remain relevant, using terrorists as tools to destabilise India.

"India and Pakistan were born the same day. Where are we in India, and where are they (Pakistan)? India has become a major global IT power in the world. India has become an emerging space power in the world. The startup movements here are now globally recognised. India has also become the second biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. We have brought digital transformation with equity and justice," Prasad said.

"What Pakistan is doing is creating terror machines. How to create world-class terrorists under their (military) Generals. They attacked us four times and lost every time. We never attacked; they were the ones who always started the war. It is because they are under the control of Generals and not political leaders. Generals want conflict to keep themselves relevant, and terrorists are the instruments through which they execute. Wherever there is a terrorist, either he is a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan," he added.

Ravi Shankar Prasad-led delegation meets German foreign minister

A delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, called on minister Johann Wadephul on Friday evening.

“Building on his recent meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Wadephul condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Germany’s strong support and solidarity with India, in the fight against terrorism,” said a post on X by the Indian embassy in Berlin.

"Both sides discussed ways to further strengthen and deepen multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to a rule-based international order, based on shared democratic values,” it added.

The delegation conveyed to German political and diplomatic leadership India's unwavering united stand for zero-tolerance for terrorism, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

'Ceasefire in Operation Sindoor due to US pressure, not strength': Congress' Jignesh Mevani

Congress leader Jignesh Mevani on Saturday questioned the government over the ceasefire in Operation Sindoor, alleging foreign pressure and demanding clarity on its terms.

Mevani accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of backing down under US influence and asked why the remaining terrorists haven't been caught.

"It's been a month since the government launched Operation Sindoor and claimed to have caught a terrorist. The Prime Minister boasts of a 56-inch chest, says India is a Vishwa Guru, and speaks of vermilion running through our veins. Then why haven't the remaining four terrorists been captured yet? Why doesn't Modi tell the nation under what conditions the ceasefire was agreed upon?" Mevani told ANI.

Mevani further alleged, "There was a moment when India had the upper hand. But then the US stepped in, pressured Pakistan, and our government surrendered. Why did the ceasefire happen? What were the terms? Let Modi explain that to the people."

Challenging the Prime Minister directly, Mevani said, "Instead of distributing Sindoor from door to door, I challenge Modi: capture the remaining four terrorists before August 15."

US President Donald Trump on Friday once again claimed that he played a key role in stopping a possible war between India and Pakistan - a conflict he said might have gone nuclear if not for his intervention.

Speaking to reports on Air Force One, Trump said he used trade as a tool to get both sides to halt hostilities immediately.

"You know, I did something that people don't talk about, and I don't talk about very much, but we solved a big problem, a nuclear problem potentially with India and with Pakistan. I spoke to Pakistan, I spoke to India, they have really great leaders, but they were going at it, and they could have gone at it nuclear," US President said.

US with India in fight against terrorism: Deputy Secretary of State tells Indian delegation

The US stands strong with India in the fight against terrorism, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau told Congress MP Shashi Tharoor-led all-party delegation here to convey India's stance on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

The Indian delegation met Landau here on Friday as it wrapped up the crucial US leg of its multi-nation tour, briefing key interlocutors about Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.

“The all-party parliamentary delegation led by Dr. @ShashiTharoor had a warm and candid conversation with US Deputy Secretary of State Landau. The Indian delegation briefed him on the atrocities of the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor,” the Indian Embassy said on X.

TMC MLA likens Operation Sindoor to 'warmongering by BJP'

In a purported video clip which went viral on social media on Friday, TMC MLA Narendranath Chakaborty is seen saying to an audience that "the way they (BJP) have started this Sindoor Khela (game of vermilion), it seems that the entire episode is a staged drama. This warmongering by the BJP is nothing but a game. In Operation Sindoor, PM Modi has played with the emotions of patriotic people, including women".

Chakraborty, however, later claimed that his comment was "twisted and misinterpreted with an ulterior political motive" and said he has great respect for the Indian army and its operation against terrorists in Pakistan.

Parliaments of 10 BRICS countries condemn Pahalgam terror attack

Representatives of the Parliaments of 10 member countries, including India, participated in the annual meeting of the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held in Brasilia on June 4-5, 2025. India was led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with a high-level Parliamentary Delegation, an official statement observed.

The statement noted that the Parliaments of 10 BRICS countries strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attacks and agreed to cooperate on a 'zero tolerance' policy against terrorism. The next conference will take place in India and Birla has been appointed as the chairperson.

As per the statement, the perspectives presented by India on various issues were appreciated by all countries and were unanimously included in the final joint declaration. In particular, India's decisive stance on terrorism was taken seriously. India strongly condemned terrorist attacks and emphatically called for adopting a "zero tolerance" policy against terrorism.

Supriya Sule-led delegation meets EAM Jaishankar

"External affairs minister Dr. S Jaishankar gave us time as he wanted to hear our experience and the feedback we got from each country. We discussed in great detail," NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule said.

"In a strong democracy, everyone has the right to speak, and many people have different views... Each delegation met different people, in a democracy, MPs are also decision makers," she added.

'Haven't seen people they met say anything positive about Pakistan,' Tharoor negates Pak's US outreach

All-Party Delegation Leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that the Pakistani delegation does not have much to be pleased about, because not many countries have spoken in their favour.
Tharoor said that the Indian delegation has provided ample proof that India is not the aggressor, but the victims of terrorism.

"Frankly, we weren't bothered. I think in all fairness, we had more important and more appointments generally than they did. So, that's something we can be very pleased about, whether it was senators and congressmen on the hill, whether it was officials of the government, our list of appointments is far, far better than theirs, and I'm very pleased about that. Equally, we've seen some of them tweeting about their meetings. We've not seen the people they met saying anything very supportive or appreciative of Pakistan. So I can't say that they've got very much to be happy about," he said.

Tharoor told ANI that while Pakistan only argues that India perpetrated terrorism, the Indian delegation proved that terrorism came from Pakistan instead.

"At the moment, we have very much got the better of the argument because when Pakistan says we're innocent, India is the aggressor, we have given arguments where that is not the case. When Pakistan says we are also victims of terrorism, we have pointed out where the terrorism was incubated in the first place. So I would say to you that I don't think we need to worry about these Pakistani arguments," he said.

Tharoor said that the delegation also has a meeting lined up with the Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau and that the meetings until now were a great success.

"Yeah, we still have a couple of important meetings tomorrow, including the Deputy Secretary of State, and we're seeing in my case I'm doing a ridiculous number of interviews tomorrow with American media. So, it's going to be a very full day... So a lot is going on still. But broadly speaking, the 5 days have been a real, real success. It seems immodest for me as a leader of the delegation to say that, but I believe we acquitted ourselves rather well. We had good conversations everywhere," he said.

Tharoor said that Indian embassies did a brilliant job by arranging for appointments with various high-level government heads, think tanks, etc.

"Pretty much every country, our embassies did a very good job of arranging high-level contacts to meet the highest levels of government in some countries, top legislators dealing with these issues, think tanks, media, influential media, press, public, and of course, where possible and appropriate, the diaspora. So we covered a lot of bases," he said.

Tharoor said that even after a busy trip, the delegation has the satisfaction that they could send the message across that why Operation Sindoor was necessary and reaffirmed the relations of each country with India.

"But at the end of the day, two satisfactions. One is, I believe, we got our message across about what happened in Pahalgam. And about Operation Sindoor and why it was necessary. And secondly, we use the opportunity to reaffirm the importance of relations with India with each of these countries," he said.

The delegation discussed not just terrorism, but also the countries' relations, areas of cooperation with India.

"Everywhere we went, we talked about terrorism, we talked about our response, but also our interlocutors were keen on discussing. Larger issues of cooperation with India, Indian involvement in their development, and their involvement in our development. It's been a terrific experience. I would say these two weeks have been well spent. They have been intense, but at the same time, they've been productive," he said.

Tharoor said that the trip revealed how much support they had from various countries, and it was much better than what they expected.

"In many ways, it was revealing of the fact that we had so much support, so much solidarity expressed. Perhaps we expected a little more resistance or a little more scepticism. We got a tremendous amount of support and sympathy. Some more in private than in public, some also openly expressed, but on the whole, looking back on this, it's an excellent experience. The 8 members of the delegation are leaving feeling they have accomplished something for the nation," he said.

The purpose of the visit is to brief key US stakeholders on Operation Sindoor, India's diplomatic effort launched to combat terrorism and disinformation following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people and injured several others.

'Not anticipating anything,' All-Party Delegation Leader Tharoor on criticisms from Congress

All-Party Delegation Leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that he was not anticipating anything with regards to the criticisms heaped on him by Congress
Tharoor, when ANI asked him about the statements directed at him from Congress members, said that he will look at them when he reaches back and now it was important to take note of the unity displayed in the All-Party delegation.

"Look, there will be a time for internal discussions when one gets back. I'm not anticipating anything because I've not been told anything directly. All I'm seeing is in the media, and some of it is speculative, but on the whole, my view very much is that we are at the moment facing a situation where the country is united and that unity was very apparent in the delegation," he said.

Tharoor has been facing heat from his own party, the Congress. On May 30, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has said that Tharoor's recent remarks about surgical strikes, made as leader of all-party delegation, were factually incorrect and that Congress party had only corrected the record by pointing out that the surgical strikes in Pakistan and also at other dens of terrorists "were regularly executed" during Congress-led UPA government to give a befetting reply to terrorists.

He said surgical strikes had been carried out by the armed forces when the Congress-led UPA government was in power.

"Those instances have been detailed in the past by the AICC Communication department. Mr Shashi Tharoor, in his book, has also spoken about these surgical strikes during Congress government. Even former Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in the past, spoke about these surgical strikes. Mr Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera have set the record straight. It should not be matter of any acrimony or doubt," Surjewala told ANI.

On June 1, Tharoor underscored the importance of focusing on their mission Operation Sindoor outreach, informing the world about India's anti-terrorism stance and response, while engaging with international counterparts.

When asked for comments on the criticism going on in India, even within his (Congress) party against him, he said, "I think this is a time for us to focus on our mission. Undoubtedly, in a thriving democracy, there are bound to be comments, criticisms. But I think at this point, we can't afford to dwell on it, when we get back to India, no doubt we have a chance to speak to our colleagues, critics, and media there. But right now we're focused on the countries we're coming to and getting the message out to the people here.

Army conducts training of 100 VDGs in Jammu

As part of its efforts to bolster local security and strengthen community defense mechanisms, Army’s Tiger Division is conducting training of 100 Village Defence Guards (VDGs) here, a defence spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The training is taking place at police firing range at Sunjuwan and is focused on enhancing the operational capabilities of VDG members and strengthen their coordination with security forces, the spokesperson said.

He said the VDG personnel are trained on firing, basic weapon handling, tactical drills and security protocols, under the supervision of experienced Army Instructors.

The aim of the training was to empower local volunteers to act as a strong support to regular security forces in sensitive areas, and to respond effectively in times of emergency, the spokesperson said.

He said the initiative reaffirms the Army’s commitment to engage with local population and foster a sense of safety and self-reliance through structured capacity-building efforts.

On a day that the Indian all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor arrived in Washington, DC as part of the global outreach on Operation Sindoor, Pakistan's copycat delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto was in New York to try to push its case.

Bhutto, who served as the Foreign Minister earlier, addressed a briefing at the UN Headquarters in New York and sought reconciliation with India, making a plea for talks and Intel sharing between the two neighbours.
