JMM expels Sita Soren for 6 years over ‘anti-party activities’

NEW DELHI: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) expelled Sita Soren from the party's primary membership for six years. The party cited "anti-party activities" as the reason behind the move.

Sita Soren, a three-term MLA, is the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, who is currently in jail. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi on March 20, stating that she felt "isolated" and "neglected" by the JMM following the death of her husband, Durga Soren, in 2009.

The BJP has nominated Sita Soren as its candidate for the Dumka Lok Sabha seat. She replaced sitting MP Sunil Soren, who defeated JMM president Shibu Soren in the 2019 elections by a margin of 47,590 votes.

The Dumka constituency is scheduled to go to vote on June 1.
