Ghosh, along with three others, has been remanded to eight-day CBI custody.

A special court in Kolkata on Tuesday ordered the custody of Ghosh after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the case. The investigation is centered around allegations of corruption and financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The other individuals arrested include vendors Biplav Singha and Suman Hazar, along with Ghosh’s security aide, Afsar Ali.

The arrests were made following a probe by the CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch, which was initiated based on a directive from a single bench of the Calcutta high court. The court had ordered the CBI investigation into the financial irregularities at the medical institution.

The CBI argued in court that there was a network of individuals involved in the misconduct, and said that there is a need for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the corruption.

The agency initially sought a 10-day custody for the accused, citing the possibility that additional offences might surface during the ongoing investigation. However, the judge decided to remand the four individuals to eight days of custody.
