The constituency has seen contests primarily between the DMK and AIADMK, with occasional participation from other parties such as the CPI(M) and NTK. In 2016, Soundarapandian won with a narrower margin of 3,837 votes, reflecting a competitive election, but he strengthened his hold in 2021.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by A Soundarapandian (DMK), while the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency is represented by Arun Nehru (DMK).
