Sources said the slain teenager

Irfan Ahmad Sheikh

from Karemabad in Pulwama had been “missing” since January 17, arousing suspicion that he had joined an outfit.

A police spokesperson said

Irfan

was hiding at Awantipora’s Nambal and fired at the approaching security team. Counter-fire cut him down. “He was with LeT/TRF,” the officer said. “He was involved in several attacks on security forces.”

The teen provided logistic support to terrorists operating in the area before becoming a full-time member of the banned Pakistan-based outfit, the officer said. “Arms and ammunition were found at the shootout site.”

Police reported another terrorist attack in the evening when a grenade was thrown towards a Sashastra

Seema Bal

(

SSB

) pillbox in the Chapargung area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district. The guards on duty were unharmed as the grenade missed the target and exploded on the road.
