Actor Ranjith accused of sexual harassment

The Hema committee’s report has taken the Malayalam industry by storm. Several actors and directors have come under heat for behaving inappropriately with the actresses.

Ranjith, a prominent Malayalam filmmaker, resigned as chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy following accusations of misconduct by Bengali actor Sreelekha Mitra. Mitra claimed that Ranjith harassed her when she met him for a film role in 2009. Ranjith denied the allegations, stating that he stepped down to avoid tarnishing the Left government's image.

CPM MLA M Mukesh under fire

The CPM maintained a deafening silence despite allegations in graphic detail raised against its own two-time MLA M Mukesh.
Apart from Mukesh, prominent figures who were publicly named included AMMA joint secretary Baburaj, directors Sreekumar Menon and Thulasidas and actors Jayasurya, Shine Tom Chacko, Edavela Babu and Maniyanpillai Raju.

Actor Baburaj accused of sexual abuse

A junior female actor has alleged that she experienced sexual abuse at the hands of actor Baburaj, who is also the joint secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), an influential actors' body.

The actor, who is commonly known by his first name only, has been accused of inappropriate conduct. This allegation comes amidst growing concerns over sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.

Serious sexual harassment charges levelled against Jayasurya

45-year-old Malayalam actor and producer Jayasurya was accused by an actress of inappropriate behavior on the sets of the film ‘De Ingottu Nokkiye’ in 2008.

The actress alleged that Jayasurya groped her and forcibly kissed her while they were filming.

Maniyapillam Raju under radar

On August 26, Malayalam film actor Minu Muneer accused several of her co-stars of sexual harassment. Minu alleged that actors M Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Idavela Babu subjected her to verbal and physical abuse during the filming of movies.


The allegations pointed out multiple instances where she was mistreated by her colleagues. Malayalam actor Gayathri Varsha has backed the allegations made by Minu Muneer.

Actor Gayathri Varsha stated that Minu had told her about an incident on the set of the film Da Thadiya, where Maniyanpilla Raju had knocked on her door.

Noted actor Siddique resigns from AMMA in wake of sexual harassment allegations

On Sunday, noted actor Siddique resigned as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) following sexual assault allegations raised by a woman actor on August 24. Siddique confirmed his resignation in a conversation with a television channel, stating that he had sent his resignation letter to the President of the organisation, Mohanlal.

Siddique's resignation comes in the wake of serious allegations made against him. The allegations have put significant pressure on the actor, leading to his decision to step down from his position in AMMA.
