NEW DELHI: As the Mahayuti alliance inches toward a resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Robert Vadra, businessman and husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, called for introspection within the Congress party. Speaking to ANI on Friday, Vadra said, “We need to learn from the results in Maharashtra and respect the verdict of the people. We need to work with the party that wins and contribute to the state’s development.”
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is leading in 218 seats, with the BJP securing two seats and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) winning one, as of 1 PM, according to the Election Commission of India. In contrast, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), led by Congress, is trailing far behind, leading in just 47 seats. Congress, the MVA's largest party, is ahead in only 20 constituencies.
JMM-led alliance poised to retain power in JharkhandIn Jharkhand, the JMM-led mahagathbandhan is leading in 49 seats, signaling a likely continuation of its government. Vadra expressed satisfaction with the results, cautioning the BJP against interfering with the ruling party through enforcement agencies. “I thank and congratulate the people of Jharkhand. I expect the BJP will not disturb the ruling party using ED or other agencies,” he said.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra leads in WayanadMeanwhile, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is on track to retain the Wayanad seat in Kerala. She leads by over 3 lakh votes against BJP’s Navya Haridas, with Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India also in the fray. The Wayanad constituency, a Congress stronghold, was vacated by Rahul Gandhi after his election as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
When asked about his political ambitions, Vadra reiterated that he currently has no plans for an electoral debut. “Priyanka is preparing to enter Parliament now. After that, my time will come, but I will follow whatever the public desires,” he remarked.
