No November-end deadline, but floor test must in a month

MUMBAI: Has governor

Bhagat Singh Koshyari

asked CM Devendra Fadnavis to pass the vote of confidence motion before November 30 ?

While Raj Bhavan did not issue a press release of the event, the chief minister’s office did inform the media, but did not disclose if Koshyari has set a deadline for passing the vote of confidence motion.

BJP spokesperson Vishwas Pathak was non-committal on the date for vote of confidence, but said BJP is prepared to face the vote of confidence at any moment. “We have a majority. We felt that there is no hurry to pass the vote of confidence motion,” he said. He said Fadnavis was in the process of fixing the date for vote of confidence motion. However, no decision has been taken in view of litigation pending before the SC, he said.

A senior bureaucrat said if there is a clear majority, there is no need to seek a vote of confidence. However, if there is no clear majority, then there is question of passing a vote of confidence motion. The

Sarkaria Commission

on center state relations has prescribed norms for seeking vote of confidence. The vote of confidence motion must be passed within 30 days. “In the present case, since a section of NCP legislators have joined hands with BJP for the formation of government, Fadnavis will have to prove majority within 30 days on the floor of the house,” he said.
