​Northeast Flood: At least 16 killed, over 6 lakh people affected​

​Assam's flood situation remained critical on Tuesday, with over 6.5 lakh people affected by the second wave of flooding. The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a rescue operation, saving 13 stranded fishermen from the severely-hit Dibrugarh district. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has urged the central government to deploy National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams promptly to assist in rescue and relief efforts. "I am present here but my mind and my focus is at the floods in Assam. The situation is very dangerous there. Dibrugarh district has been severely affected in the current wave of flooding, with the major town in Upper Assam inundated for the sixth consecutive day. An ASDMA bulletin reported that 6,71,167 people are reeling under floodwaters in 67 revenue circles across 20 districts, including Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Majuli, Karimganj, Tamulpur, Tinsukia, and Nalbari. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh over the next two days.
