Northeast testament of 'Modi guarantee': PM; Congress flings Manipur barb

GUWAHATI: In his first election rally in the northeast on Wednesday, PM Modi summed up the three poll campaigns that he has steered, saying he brought with him hope for people in 2014, trust in 2019 and 'Modi ki guarantee' in 2024.

"Modi ki guarantee' is echoing throughout the nation and the northeast is a testament to this guarantee," he said at a rally in Assam's Nalbari, adding that under his leadership, the region has transformed into a land of possibilities from a region plagued by problems under Congress. Tearing into Congress in Nalbari and later in Agartala, he said that while the opposition party "fostered separatism in the northeast, we considered it an integral part of India and worked towards peace and security in the region".

Congress responded by saying that the Modi govt has failed the people of north-east, which is illustrated by the crises of Manipur violence and Chinese incursions, and the threat to the region's forests.
