NEW DELHI: The Pakistani Army seems tohave changed its tactics. In addition to artillery and small-arms fire fromacross the border, it has started "throwing" mines at India. Or so it seems, with the Indian Army having detected several Pakistani landmines in Indianterritory.Army officers say there have been repeated instances ofPakistani soldiers "throwing" mines into India near Border Pillar-174 at SehjraBulg in the Ferozepur sector of Punjab along the International Border."Wehave recovered 16 anti-personnel mines and one anti-tank mine, all with themarkings of Pakistani ordnance factories. It is clear that the Pakistanis areindulging in mischief by throwing these mines into our territory," said anofficer. But can one really "throw" mines? "Yes. The new low-metal contentmines, especially the anti-personnel ones, are quite light and can be thrownquite easily," said the officer. The first lot of these mines was detectedon December 16 last year. Then, on January 21, eight more anti-personnel mineswere recovered from the same sector, which led to injuries to a BSF jawan.
