Also present in the meeting were external affairs minister S Jaishankar, commerce minister Piyush Goyal, foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and national security advisor Ajit Doval.

The government has launched "Operation Ganga" to evacuate Indian citizens from Ukraine. Four Union ministers have flown to neighbouring countries of Ukraine to coordinate the exercise.

PM Modi himself had spoken to Russian President Putin regarding safe passage to Indians from the conflict zone.

The Indian Air Force and several private airlines are operating evacuation flights to bring back Indians who crossed from Ukraine into Romania, Hungary, Poland and Slovak republic.
