The construction of the bridge, considered as a strategic link to eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh, began in 2011 at a sanctioned project cost of Rs 950 cr.

The bridge is 3.55 kilometres longer than the Bandra Worli sea link over the Mahim Bay in Mumbai, which is current the longest bridge in India.
