Protests in all districts, pressers in 150 cities: Congress to up ante against Amit Shah
NEW DELHI: Continuing its protest against Amit Shah's "disparaging" remarks about Ambedkar, Congress leaders will in the coming week lead protest marches in all districts and hold press conferences in 150 cities to press for the Union home minister's resignation. Also, it will be a key issue at the CWC meeting called in Belagavi to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's election as Congress president in 1924.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said the party will observe 'Ambedkar Samman Saptah' with a host of events to highlight, and protest against BJP's negative mindset towards Ambedkar and the Constitution.
Party MPs and senior leaders will hold press conferences at 150 locations across the country on Dec 22 and 23, and workers will take out protest marches in all districts on Dec 24. Partty spokesperson Pawan Khera said the marches would start with the garlanding of Ambedkar's photograph, and culminate with the submission of a memorandum, seeking Shah's resignation, to the President via the district collectors.
"Our agitation demanding home minister Amit Shah's resignation will continue. We will fight to protect Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's legacy against the Manusmriti worshippers," Venugopal said.
He said the CWC meeting and the mega rally in Belagavi on Dec 26-27 will "reiterate our commitment to Dr Ambedkar and his ideals". Khera said the CWC meeting will also decide the future action plan for the party.
About the FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Khera said the home minister is under the "misconception that police and judiciary are in his pocket", and that delusion would soon be shattered by the followers of Ambedkar.
