Rain batters Delhi-NCR: Waterlogging stalls traffic as city roads flooded, flights take a hit

Intense rain in Delhi


Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall on Saturday. Areas including Vasant Kunj, R.K. Puram, Connaught Place, and Minto Bridge are experiencing intense showers. Waterlogging was reported at Panchkuian Marg due to continuous rainfall in the National Capital since early morning.

Normal life disrupted


The overnight and morning downpour severely disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR. Waterlogging was reported in several areas, including Panchkuian Marg, Mathura Road, and Connaught Place, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and delays on major roads.

Flights delayed


The rain not only caused chaos on the ground but also in the skies. According to Flightradar data, more than 130 flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed on Saturday morning.

Life brought to a standstill


Rain lashes parts of Delhi-NCR, bringing traffic to a standstill near AIIMS. Slow vehicular movement and congestion are seen near the Barapullah bridge following heavy rainfall in the national capital. Many areas in Delhi are waterlogged after the torrential downpour.

IMD warns of more downpour


As per IMD, Delhi will experience rain with thunderstorms till August 12. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for three districts on August 11 and 12 and a Yellow Alert for the remaining districts.

Rain increased humidity in the region


Despite the disruption, the rain brought some relief from the persistent humidity, with air quality improving to a moderate AQI of 116 as recorded on Friday. The IMD forecasted a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius for the day.

Yamuna inches toward danger mark


Additionally, the Yamuna River at the Old Railway Bridge rose to a season-high level of 205.15 metres early on Friday morning, inching closer to the danger mark of 205.33 metres, adding to concerns of possible flooding in low-lying areas.

Caution warnings exercised


Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain updated on weather advisories as teams work to manage waterlogging and traffic flow.
